SD: Well, we have a wide spectrum of gamers here. We just try to make the game that we want to play. We take all perspectives in, but at the end of the day, we just try to make a fun game that we like. We try to make our games so the mass market can play it, but the really hardcore can still find something. There are still people playing the original StarCraft 10 years later, and there are a lot of people that don't play it anymore because they're trying other games or whatever, but we definitely want that to happen again.
SD:我们的玩家相当多。我们只是想制作一款我们想玩的游戏。我们加入了所有的元素,但最终,我们只是想做一个我们喜欢的有趣的游戏。我们想让我们的游戏能够被绝大部分玩家接受,但真正的铁杆玩家仍能发现一些额外的东西。10年之后,仍有玩家在玩最早的SC,也有许多玩家不再玩了,因为他们正在尝试其他游戏或者别的,但我们毫无疑问的,希望它(SC1的奇迹---译者注)重演。
1UP: So a few of the guys I was talking to before I came down here -- younger dudes who didn't play the original StarCraft at the time -- say they are reluctant to try it now, especially in multiplayer, because they're afraid they're going to get their ass kicked on Battle.net. So they're waiting for StarCraft II because they feel like it's going to be ground zero again. Do you think that's true?

SD: Well, we always kinda laugh, because whenever our games go live, for the first day or two, we kick butt. And then the next day after, there's a 5-year-old kid in Europe or somewhere and they just wipe you out. OK, I used to be cool, now I'm not. Yes, everyone starts off kind of the same, but if you're a good RTS player, you already have all that. I guess it's like going from one martial art to another, you have the basics....

SD: Yeah, we're trying to keep all those the same, as much as possible.

1UP: So for you, having been here since...1991?

SD: The early Mesozoic era. [Laughs]

1UP: So obviously the experience of being at Blizzard all this time must be totally different, right? Working on this game versus working on, say, Lost Vikings?

SD: Lost Vikings, Rock 'n' Roll Racing, yeah. Blackthorne, all the old SNES games, all the old PC games.

1UP: How has it changed over time? That's one thing I've noticed is a lot of you "old-timer" guys are still here, and this is an industry where people move around all the time. Is it that great a place to work?
